In addition to Writing Center Outreach events, the Writing Center hosts a range of in-house and community events, including internal staff professional development, DePaul community writing groups, and other writing center-specific events (high school writing center visits, Chicagoland Peer Tutors Day, etc.).

πŸ“œ Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Associate Director for The Writing Center Erin Herrmann, the Writing Center Event Planning Student Leader assists with coordinating professional development, writing group facilitation, and hosting other writing center events.

✨ Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in planning & executing events for internal professional development (40%)
  • Collaborate with Workshops Team Members to solicit & execute professional development workshops
    • Create promotional and registration materials for each professional development workshop
    • Approve registration and manage related schedule changes for attendees
    • Support development of workshop content by providing feedback on topic development and practice sessions
  • Coordinate logistical planning, organization, and advertising of events including Tutor Talk and other professional development events
Coordinate Writing Center writing groups for the university community (15%)
  • Collaborate and check in with stakeholders to determine goals & plans for each writing group
  • Hire and train new writing group facilitators as needed
  • Schedule writing group facilitators in WCOnline
  • Check-in with writing group facilitators quarterly
Oversee development and publication of the Writing Center’s annual literary magazine The Orange Couch (10%)
  • Requires more hours in Spring Quarter (some in WQ)
  • Collaborate with writing groups SLs
  • Complete additional tasks
Assist with other writing center events (20%)
  • Identify & schedule tutors in WCOnline to staff events
  • Coordinate logistics for event execution
  • Serve on event planning committees as needed
Manage the Writing Center Calendar (10%)
  • Post weekly in Slack to promote upcoming Writing Center events
  • Serve as the point person for the Writing Center to add events and relevant information to the
  • Maintain a sense of events each week and quarter to help teams and Writing Center TutorWriting Center Tutors in identifying times for events if needed
Perform other leadership duties as assigned (5%)
