πŸ“œ Position Summary

In an effort to increase confidence and competence in English Learner tutoring across the Writing Center staff, the English Learners Support student leader conducts research, composes blog posts, and provides professional development. Additionally, English Learners Support offers language and writing support to English Learners from a variety of departments, programs, and student organizations across the DePaul community, facilitating a variety of programming and support. Under the supervision of and in collaboration with the Associate Director for Operations Management, the English Learners Support Student Leader oversees a team, supports Writing Center Tutors with English Learner tutoring, and collaborates with university partners.

✨ Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Support tutors in their work with English Learner writers (55%)
  • Check-in individually with each tutor to answer questions and seek feedback
  • Conduct research to stay up to date on English Learner best practices
  • Plan and facilitate professional development workshops for Writing Center Tutors
  • Write periodic PublicationsPublications posts about English Learner tutoring
Assist with management and support of team members (30%)
  • Collaborate to plan & lead weekly team meetings
  • Delegate & oversee specific English Learner research projects providing guidance
  • Coordinate and update team members’ schedule in WCOnline
Collaborate with university partners to celebrate multilingualism and culture (10%)
  • Communicate information about The Writing Center, provide resources, run events, etc.
Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Associate Director for Operations Management (5%)

  • Interest in multilingualism, multilingual preferred
  • Interest in teaching, education background preferred
  • Pursuit of a TESOL certificate preferred
