The Outreach team, among other things, celebrates and promotes awareness and appreciation of the work the Writing Center does, creating cohesive content that appeals to our audiences and tells them who we are and what we do.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the Outreach Coordinator, the Outreach Marketing & Social Media Student Leader promotes the Writing Center, assists with staff recruitment, and co-leads the Outreach team. More specifically, the Outreach Marketing & Social Media Student Leader promotes our services, events, contests, etc. to the DePaul University community and beyond by developing a content strategy based on the Writing Center Content Strategy and Style Guide, coordinating social media content, and running the Writing Center’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Develop content strategy for marketing the Writing Center (40%)
  • Establish and communicate design guidelines for posts
  • Determine Writing Center promotional needs and vision each quarter
  • Generate content calendar of planned posts related to operations, events, contests, etc.
  • Brainstorm timely social media series (Writing Center pets, work from home spaces, Writing Center staff story takeovers, etc.)
  • Create Writing Center-branded content and graphics using the Writing Center's Canva Account
  • Coordinate and schedule staff for information tables across the university to communicate Writing Center services, events, etc.
Coordinate Writing Center social media content for teams and projects (20%)
  • Collaborate with teams to plan marketing of events, contests, etc.
  • Collect and review social media post drafts
  • Assist in recruiting students to apply to join the Writing Center staff
Manage Writing Center social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) (20%)
  • Post content appropriate for each platform according to the schedule
  • Respond to accounts’ comments and messages
  • Analyze metrics to adjust posts and increase engagement
  • Target and engage with related accounts (DePaul academic departments & student organizations, other writing centers, etc.)
Manage and support Outreach team members (15%)
  • Collaborate with Outreach Coordinator to plan & lead weekly team meetings
  • Facilitate team discussion about current marketing strategies and materials
  • Check-in individually with team members to offer feedback and answer questions
  • Coordinate and update team members’ schedules in WCOnline
Perform other team leadership duties as assigned by the Outreach Coordinator (5%)

Position Qualifications

  • Ability to target and communicate to multiple audiences
  • Strong time management skills
  • Highly organized with a focus on logistics
  • Flexible, with a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Ability to effectively co-manage a team
  • Interest in content strategy, marketing, and social media
  • Marketing experience preferred
  • Graphic design interest and/or experience preferred
