✍️ Position Summary
This role consists of facilitating the Scriptwriting writing group, which meets every week during the quarter. The goal of the Scriptwriting group is to give playwrights, screenwriters, and other types of scriptwriters opportunities to generate work and hear their work read aloud in a relaxed and constructive setting. The group is typically run by two facilitators working in partnership to balance responsibilities.
✨ Principle Duties & Responsibilities
Facilitate weekly Scriptwriting Group meetings (60%)
- Facilitate collaborative and writer-centered meetings, setting agendas based on the specific group’s needs and interests
- Consider the amount of time, amount and scale of shared work (including where writers are in their writing processes), and type of writing
- Read scripts aloud and provide feedback as a group based on what we heard, read, and felt
- Create space for constructive feedback and growth
- Emphasize asking questions over making assumptions!
- Facilitators may also want to:
- Create opportunities for members to promote their productions and films
- Bridge the writing with the practical production of the scripts—from our experiences as theatre and film majors, consider how scripts would function practically
Plan meetings (30%)
- Prepare generative activities for each meeting, based on survey responses and writers’ needs
- As part of collaborative agenda-setting, activities can either build rapport among the group members, inspire further writing during the meeting, or be condensed if writers have a lot to share
- Document generative activities in the Scriptwriting Notion
- Invite writers via email to attend meetings and bring work to read
- Review Google form that describes writers’ goals for the meeting and compile form results into a Google Sheet
- Document plans in the Scriptwriting group Notion
- Record the agenda, activities, attendance, post-meeting notes, and any other necessary documentation
- Regularly update larger to-dos and individual meeting goals and planning
Perform other administrative and recordkeeping duties (10%)
- Send weekly emails to the Scriptwriting group email list
- Enter participants for each meeting into WConline

- Learn how to facilitate constructive feedback on scripts in group meetings, combining multiple types of creation (generative activities, reading aloud, etc.)
- Facilitate script readings and feedback sessions, practicing new play/script dramaturgy-style post-reading feedback
- Understand and utilize a variety of strategies to effectively lead a community and collaborate with multiple stakeholders
- Develop and execute practical event-planning and public speaking skills

- Interest and experience in theatre or film
- Experience with script analysis
🗓️ Hours/Schedule
Facilitators ideally commit to the role for one academic year with the potential to continue beyond that. Beyond initial training, the time commitment for this role involves working approximately 3-4 hours per week as part of your regular weekly Writing Center schedule, Weeks 2-10 of each quarter.
- 1-2 hours at the beginning of the quarter for new facilitator training when applicable
- 60 minutes each week to send emails, coordinate meetings, fill in the Notion, and exchange ideas
- 1-2 hours each week to facilitate the writing group meetings, including any set up and clean up needed
- 30-60 minutes mid-quarter for a facilitator check-in with a student manager or administrator
- Time as needed later in the quarter for organizing events or promotion
