The Writing Center is a complex organization with over 70 staff members working across multiple locations (both on-site and remotely). We rely on accurate and effective content and media to guide our work.
The Content & Media Development Student Manager (CMDSM) will report to the Writing Center Director to ensure our internal content is correct and useful, and that we efficiently use technology to accomplish our goals. The CMDSM will also help create new content and explore improved ways of using technology or new technologies to enhance our work.
✨ Principal Duties & Responsibilities
This position will evolve throughout the year as the CMDSM and Director evaluate our progress.
Assist director in managing website content
- Inventory existing content and revise where needed
- In collaboration with Project Manager SL—plan and oversee implementation of all proposed revisions and publishing of newly-revised website
Assist director in managing internal content, including The Handbook
- Inventory existing content and revise where needed
- In collaboration with Project Manager SL—plan and oversee implementation of all proposed revisions and publishing of newly-revised Handbook content
- Consider ways to make Handbook content more relevant to and useful for student employees, propose ideas, and implement approved ideas
- Inventory any other mission-critical internal content and ensure anything relevant is up-to-date and accessible to staff
Manage and promote resources database
- Maintain up-to-date resources content for tutors to help them do their job effectively
- Encourage tutors’ use of the resources database
Help oversee efficient implementation of writing-center-wide core technologies & media
- Including, as of now
- Slack (or other channel-based messaging system)
- Manage membership and groups
- Train staff on how to use
- Encourage participation to help build community, both around tutoring-content and office-talk
- Google Drive
- Notion (for the Operations Team and any other stakeholders using it)
- Outlook
- Working to ensure a single source of truth for policies, procedures, processes, and documents across media and content
Plan & facilitate quarterly Tutor Talk sessions in collaboration with other student managers
- Meet regularly in preparation for Tutor Talk
- Develop agendas and materials for sessions
- Facilitate Tutor Talk
Assist administrators in hiring new tutors in Spring Quarter 2024
- Read and score applications
- Conduct interviews as part of the hiring team
