CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Writing Group Facilitators

Open Positions Start AQ 2024:

  • Currently being developed: a new writing group focused on supporting writers working on scripts/screenwriting/playwriting: 1 position
    • The co-facilitator will collaborate with Molly S. who came up with the idea for the group!
    • This is a brand new group, so both co-facilitators will help to form and develop the group alongside Writing Group coordinators Isabeau BD and Erin H.

Eligibility

  • Current peer writing tutors interested in creative writing who plan to work next academic year are eligible to apply. The ideal candidates will be available to work as writing group facilitators throughout the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • For the Escribir Writing Group, we strongly encourage applications from staff members of Latinx origin or descent. Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is not required.
  • For the new script writing group, we strongly encourage applications from staff members with experience/interest in screenwriting in particular and well as those who are interested in collaboratively developing a new group.
  • We strongly encourage applications from staff members who have participated in Writers Guild and/or in Escribir.
    • If you haven’t yet attended Writers Guild, we invite you to join Thursdays 6:15-7:45 PM in the LPC Writing Center (SAC 212)!
    • If you haven't yet attended Escribir, we invite you to join the final Escribir gathering of the year on Tuesday, 5/28, in the Latinx Cultural Center (O’Connell 360).

Process

  1. Read the position descriptions linked at the top of this post.
    1. Note that the facilitator role for the new script writing group will be similar to the Writers Guild position description. The co-facilitators will be a part of the process of developing the position description and the group.
  1. Write a letter of application (details below).
  1. Complete the application form by the due date. You’ll submit your letter of application through the form as well as answer some additional questions.
  1. As needed, we will be in touch about interviews.

Letter of Application

In your letter of application, please address the following:
  • Describe why you want to serve as a writing group co-facilitator. What is it about working as a writing group co-facilitator at the Writing Center that appeals to you?
  • Make a case for why and how you are particularly qualified to serve as a writing group co-facilitator.
    • Use your work at the Writing Center, applicable experiences and skills, and reflections on your own tutoring approaches and philosophy to help make your case for why you are qualified to be an effective facilitator working collaboratively with a co-facilitator.
    • Share any innovations or ideas you have for enhancing our creative writing groups.
  • Tell us about your experiences with Escribir, Writers Guild, and/or other writing groups to date, if any, and how those experiences support your application to serve as a co-facilitator.
